Two New Plays for Spring

March 8, 2012

 Eurydice

By Sarah Ruhl

Performances April 26, 27, 28 at 7 p.m.

In Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine.  Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her mother and struggles to remember her lost love.  With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.

“RHAPSODICALLY BEAUTIFUL.  A weird and wonderful new play—an inexpressibly moving theatrical fable about love, loss and the pleasures and pains of memory.”  —The New York Times

EXHILARATING!!  A luminous retelling of the Orpheus myth, lush and limpid as a dream where both author and audience swim in the magical, sometimes menacing, and always thrilling flow of the unconscious.”  —The New Yorker

Collected Stories

An Original Production

Special Performance April 28 at 2 p.m.

This original, one-time event will highlight the power of stories and the storytelling power of theatre.  A small group of principle musicians will accompany a large cast of actors performing ballads, folk stories, fairy tales, fables and tall tales.

Important News About The Spring Play

March 4, 2012

The school’s administration recently received a complaint from a middle school parent about the content of a public event hosted by the high school.  While administrators were present at the event and found it to be entirely appropriate, that experience has led them to review their approval of The Arabian Nights. Although the script was already heavily edited for content, they have decided to reverse their approval of its performance.

The administration is currently reviewing an alternative script.  As soon as approval has been granted, an announcement will be posted to this website as well as the call board in the fine arts wing.

Thank you to all the students who took time out of your days and evenings this past week to prepare and perform for the auditions. It was a great pleasure being an audience to your talent and dedication.  Please stay tuned to this blog or become a subscriber to receive an e-mail update the instant more information is available.

In the meantime, we encourage you to come out Wednesday night and support the performing arts at HHS: Hanover’s Got Talent kicks off at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.  Admission is $5.
