Singin’ in the Rain Cast List

February 21, 2011

Thank you to everyone for your interest in Hanover High School’s production of Singin’ in the Rain!

The first full cast and crew meeting will be held on Friday after school at from 3:45-6:45. We will discuss expectations for the show, contracts, rehearsal schedules, etc.

A meeting for those interested in working on creative elements of the production such as choreography, costuming, artistic design, set building, lighting, sound, and other technical components of the show will be held on Wednesday after school beginning at 3:45.

A key to the cast list:

Initials indicate a singing/dancing role in the following ensembles:

YSOD=You Stepped out of a Dream

AID=All I Do Is Dream of You

BG=Beautiful Girl

BM=Broadway Melody

Those performing in the pieces described above will have regular dance checks.  If you fail to learn a dance, you’ll be removed from that number.

Actors understudying the lead roles will perform in the leading role for the Saturday matinee performance.

A few remaining minor roles (with and without lines) will be cast during the rehearsal process based on attendance and dedication.

And now, in honor of my wife’s birthday today. . . click here for the Final Cast List.

Cast List to Be Announced This Evening. . .

February 21, 2011

The cast list for Singin’ in the Rain will be posted to this site between 8 and 10 p.m. this evening.

“You’re every thought, you’re everything, you’re every song I ever sing”

February 20, 2011

You’re really going to hate me for this, but I’m still unable to post the cast list.  There are a few problems that we still need to figure out, and I’ve been unable to get in touch with Mrs. D to finalize these decisions.  I know this is very frustrating for all of you, but please get some rest, don’t stress, and know that, as Kathy and the girls sing, “All I do is dream of you the whole night through.”

Brief Casting Update

February 20, 2011

We still hope to have the cast list posted this afternoon, but it’s looking like it will be later this afternoon rather than sooner.

Let me explain part of the complication.  The script, unfortunately, is rather sloppy in a number of ways.  One of many examples is that the cast list in the script indicates that there are 27 roles with speaking lines and simply indicates that the rest are “Members of the ensemble with non-speaking roles.”  The problem is that some of the characters listed don’t have lines, and many who are not listed do.

In fact, there are approximately 77 distinct individuals in the play, 51 of whom speak at least 1 line.

In addition to these 77 characters, there are 15 different groups of indeterminate size (from sword fighters to show girls)

Finally, there are 5 different groups that sing and/or dance as ensembles.

On top of all these complexities, we are looking at casting understudies for a number of roles in the play.  These understudies would be prepared to take over for the lead actor in the event of illness, breaking of contract, lack of preparation, etc.  But we would also like to give the understudies (assuming they themselves are prepared) a Saturday matinee performance, so they would be guaranteed at least one performance before a paying audience (which means adding another show to the run).

We also have a director and musical director, which creates the need to collaborate and communicate about the singing roles in particular and the understudies for those roles.  Technology and availability have gotten in the way of that communication.

All of this is to say, thank you again for your interest and patience–this is a very time intensive, complicated, and harrowing process.  We are eager for it to be over just as much as all of you are!

No Cast List. . . Yet

February 19, 2011

We know that this waiting period has been hard for all of you–it has been a very difficult process for us.  Unfortunately, we won’t be able to announce a cast list tonight (Saturday).  So. . . get a good night’s sleep, and don’t bother checking back here until tomorrow afternoon.  That’s the absolute earliest we can hope to have the final cast list posted.  Thanks again for sharing your many talents with us. . . and for your patience.
